What is our website all about?
Well, first of all lets deal with what’s a ‘WINGDING’, it’s the easiest way of explaining what we’re doing.
For those that don’t know, a ‘WINGDING’ is a party, festival or celebration, so add this to Waycross, it then becomes a Waycross Celebration or as we’re calling it, a Waycross WINGDING.
What are we celebrating?
OK, well that’s the simple part, you see Waycross Georgia was incorporated March 3rd 1874. So what can we do about that, well Waycrosslocal.com, the local community website, wants to and feels it would be great to celebrate this event, so we’re going to have ourselves a big old WINGDING!
It will be held on March 3rd 2012
Last year, as March 3rd 2011 fell on a Thursday, it was held on Saturday the 5th March so that all the family will be able to attend and have fun. The good news is that THIS YEAR, 2012 the 3rd falls on a Saturday.
So, What’s the plan?
We are having a load of events going on throughout the day at the YMCA on Plant Ave. There will be ample parking loads of space because there will all sorts of food, arts and crafts, competitions and fun for all ages.
A two week scavenger hunt around town
Two weeks before our event we’ll be having a great scavenger hunt, it won’t take you two weeks to do it, don’t worry, but we’ll be giving you two weeks to get it done. It will help show you what’s going on locally, plus some interesting history. There will be various prizes for the winners and trust me, well worth doing. There will also be a participation prize as well, so even if you don’t win the major prizes, you could still be a winner, plus it’s FREE to enter so what have you got to loose.
Prize Draws throughout the Day!
Through the generous donations of our Bronze sponsors there will be a prize draw every half hour throughout our event. Donate a $1 and we’ll give you a ticket for the drawing, but why stop there, donate more and you’ll stand more chances of winning. All the donations will go to 4 LOCAL charities present: Megan’s House, Okefenokee Humane Soc., Magnolia House, and the Shriners. All donations given will be divided equally between them, so please give generously.
Kids Competitions
Through the schools we will have a number of competitions for our school children also with great prizes to win, from Pre K and up we’ll have coloring competitions and for the older children a short story contest. These competitions are FREE and will be through the schools and Waycross WINGDING.
Pie Competition
Are you a good cook? Well bring a ‘homemade’ pie of your choice to our WINGDING and we’ll see. It’s FREE to enter so give it a go.
Greezed Pig Competition
You’ll really need to plan ahead for this one, and bring a change of clothes! because this is going to be great fun. This event is going to be sponsored by Ware Milling, so I think this could be a great video opportunity! There are going to be a number of traditional and some not so traditional events associated with this one, such as Chicken Squares!?
Hog Hollerin’ Competition
We hope you’re in good voice for this one, so get some practice in, because we’ll have something to shout about. It’s a FREE contest so why not join in, after all you may win a prize.
Melon* Seed Spitting Contest
Another one for you to practice, but not for long I’m sure, it just comes naturaly for you southern guys and girls. Now we will more than likely have to change this a little, and change melon seeds for sun flower, but the games the same, and it’s going to go a long way! Plus it’s another FREE event.
Period Costume Competition
You will need to plan ahead for this one, we want you to come to our event dressed as they did around 1874.
We will have 2 competitions, 1 for children up to 16ish and adult 17ish and over.
Great prizes and it’s FREE to enter so do your research and get your costume ready for judging on the day.
Duck Races
This is going to be great fun for everyone, you’ll have to get involved in this one.
Do you have a older relative or senior friend?
We are looking for the oldest Waycross Ware County resident on March 3rd 2011, we’re going to present them with a WINGDING gift, sponsored by Kroger. You will have to go some because we have a lovely lady we’ve found that makes everyone else look young! but the great news is she’s really young at heart.
Are you or do you know someone having a baby?
We are looking for the first baby to be born on March 3rd 2011, in WaycrossWareCounty, so if you know someone pregnant and due around March 3rd 2011 they could be a winner and not even know it yet as we’re going to present them with a WINGDING gift, sponsored by Kroger.
Music & Entertainment
There will be a lot of music events happening on the day, but we’re just getting these details arranged at the moment, but it’s going to be good.
There’s going to be a lot more things going on, with as we said, music and entertainment throughout the day, you’ll just have to be there so you don’t miss anything, trust me, this is going to be a real family fun event, or should I say, WINGDING.
